Summer River Guide Internship

Want to be a river guide? Western Slope SUP wants you!

We are offering a 90-Hour River Guide Internship this spring/summer.


What you get

50 hours of on-water training with professional instructors which will cover:

  • Stand up paddle

  • Rafting

  • River rescue

  • Teaching

  • Guiding

  • And much more

 What you give

  • 40 volunteer hours

  • $250 deposit (refunded upon completion of internship)


  • Age 18 by July 2019

  • Weekend Availability April 13 - May 5

  • CPR/First Aid certification (class available through Western Slope SUP)

Upon successful completion of the internship your deposit will be refunded, you will receive your Colorado River Guide License, and be offered a job with Western Slope SUP!

Training locations include Western Slope SUP, Crawford State Park, the Gunnison River, the Colorado River and the North Fork of the Gunnison River. This training includes a 3 day/2 night overnight trip on the Colorado River.

Upon completion of this training, trainees will be eligible to receive a Colorado River Guide License.

After training, trainees will be required to provide 40 volunteer hours to Western Slope SUP. This volunteer work can include assisting guided river trips, rental shop work, or shuttle driving. Once this obligation has been satisfied, the internship will be complete.

Upon completion of the internship, trainee’s deposits will be refunded. They will also be eligible for hire with Western Slope SUP.
